7 Popular Games from Winter is Passing

Helen and I had an awesome time at this year’s Winter is Passing event.

Here is a list of games that were popular with attendees-

Flipology

A simple game with strategic cleverness. Arrange your cards in a face-down row. Each turn, flip a card and follow its instructions. Cards can flip other cards in your row or your opponent’s leading to surprising cascade effects. At the end of the 3 rounds, score your cards – most give points for being face up, but some being for face down.

  • Recommended Age: 6+
  • Game Time: 5-30 minutes

Carnival of Monsters

A fast, challenging, and quick to learn card game with beautiful artwork. Collect land cards, then capture creatures that originate from these lands. Hire staff and work to achieve secret goals. But beware, some monsters are dangerous and will need to be carefully caged.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza

Filled to the brim with hand-slapping mayhem! Each player places a card from their hand face up into a community pile while saying taco/cat/goat/cheese/pizza in player sequence. When the card matches the mantra — boom! — everyone slaps their hand on the deck, with the last one to slap picking up the cards. Whoever rids themselves of cards first wins!

Wingspan

A beautiful, award-winning game with carefully detailed scientific illustrations. You take the role of bird enthusiasts trying to attract birds to your individual aviaries. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats. Gain food, lay eggs, and of course collect birds.

Secret Hitler

A social deduction game with two teams: the liberal majority, and the hidden fascists. If the liberals can learn to trust each other, they have enough votes to control the elections and save the day. But the fascists will say whatever it takes to get elected, advance their agenda, and win the game.

Hoard

A family-friendly, card game with players vying for the hoard of a sleeping dragon. Can you gather more treasure than your fellow adventurers? Can you defend yourself from their attacks and perhaps perpetrate a few of your own? And can you end the hunt at the most opportune time, perhaps by actually wakening the fearsome beast?
