And The Winner Is…

As the rain buckets down outside and the temperature continues to drop, one of my favourite things to do is invite some friends around and get stuck into some good board games. It’s an opportunity to bring out some good old favourites, or perhaps even try something new.

This time of year also brings the highly anticipated Spiel des Jahres winner. Spiel des Jahres, or Game of the Year, is the board game industry’s most prestigious award – the creme de la creme – and is designed to recognise and promote high quality games. Games are judged based on game idea and originality, rule structure and clarity, presentation and game mechanics. The nominees this year were: Fits, Dominion, Finca, Fauna and Pandemic. The winner was announced overnight and the 2009 Spiel des Jahres award goes to…drum roll please…Dominion!

Dominion is a beautifully presented card based game where each player, as rulers of their own kingdom, work to expand their borders through hiring plebs, constructing buildings, developing their castles and filling their coffers with gold. This game boasts high replayability and we look forward to adding it to our ever growing collection…watch this space!

A small collection from our range.
