Gloomhaven is an evolving campaign game of dungeon crawling tactical combat and exploration for 1-4 players in a high fantasy setting.

Players will take on the role of a wandering mercenary with their own special set of skills and their own reasons for travelling to this remote corner of the world. Players must work together out of necessity to clear out menacing dungeons and forgotten ruins. In the process they will enhance their abilities with experience and loot, discover new locations to explore and plunder, and expand an ever-branching story fuelled by the decisions they make.

This is a persistent game that is intended to be played over many game sessions. After a scenario, players will make decisions on what to do, which will determine how the story continues, kind of like a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book.

Playing through a scenario is a cooperative affair where players will fight against automated monsters using an innovative card system to determine the order of play and what a player does on their turn.

Essentially, every turn a player will play two cards out of their hand. Each card has a number in the centre, and the number on the first card played will determine their initiative order. Each card also has a top and bottom power, and when it is a player’s turn in the initiative order, they determine whether to use the top power of one card and the bottom power of the other, or vice-versa. Players must be careful, though, because over time they will permanently lose cards from their hands. If they take too long to clear a dungeon, they may end up exhausted and be forced to retreat.

This is the fifth printing, retail version of this massively popular game that has rocketed up the game rankings all the way to the top.

Please note some of the game boxes have minor creasing to a corner that does not affect the integrity of the box or components. We assume this is because of the size and weight of the game and appears to have occurred prior to packing by the manufacturer. This is a known issue with Gloomhaven boxes received throughout the two Kickstarter campaigns.

Received Gloomhaven as a gift from my family. It is in perfect condition, and looks so fun! Can’t wait to play.

This game, is awesome. When I heard about this game, it was described to me as a d&d like game with no dungeon master, that way everyone plays. The game is scenario based, so you level your characters as you get xp (from completing scenarios and doing certain actions/playing certain cards) becoming more and more powerful, but so do your enemies. You need to find a committed group however, with people who you can spend alot of time with. Scenarios can be long or short, and nothings stopping you from doing multiple if you have the time.

TL:DR. I’ve written alot already, so final verdict?
It’s a fun game to play with others and you get alot of value for the price, it’s an awesome experience.

There’s only 2 wolves left. We’ve got this, yes?
Scoundrel first, wait you’re going to loot instead? Sigh, yeah, you need the money, right.
Ok, Spellweaver. No? You’re buffing instead, ok, still two other people who can handle the dogs.
Except the Cragheart is … resting. Oh, you’re out of cards.
Brute, it’s on you. Why are you heading for the door? You have a personal quest to be the first to open a door?

But the wolves, argh, they’re going to chew us apart. And the door’s open so there’s even more monsters coming at us now!

Wasn’t this supposed to be a cooperative game?

  4. Telina

A dungeon crawler of epic proportions. This campaign is never hard to pull out – except when you can’t get your group together! I love building my character and get rather attached by the time I have to say goodbye.

There’s a reason it’s number one on BGG. It’s a brilliant game and I highly recommend it.
