Carcassonne: Inns & Cathedrals is the first major expansion for Carcassonne, and introduces several new aspects to the game, such as the new tile types, 'Inns' and 'Cathedrals', as well as providing the opportunity for a sixth player to join in the fun.

In Carcassonne: Inns and Cathedrals inns can be used to double the value of a completed road and Cathedrals can be used to triple the value of a completed city. A new large follower acts as two regular followers and increases the player’s chance of dominating a road, city or field.
